New Fragility
eine neue Hörbarkeit seinem typischen Klangbild hinzugefügt.
Der erste Track wie gesagt macht da ein Tempo an den Tag, dass einem erst einmal fast die Luft weg bleibt, pausenlos, andauernd und ohne Unterlass, hier bleibt keine Zeit zum Luftschnappen.
Das Klangbild, früher einmal dünn und ausgefranst, hat nun fast orchesterstärke und holpert von einem unreinen Basslauf in den nächsten Refrain, verschafft
Theatralisches Leiden in Tönen, muss man schon mögen, um hier bei der Stange zu bleiben und dabei dann auch nocht Vergnügen zu verspüren. Eigenartig bis einzigartig könnte man die klagenden Intonationen von .. nennen.
In Song Nummer Drei schließlich gibt es kein Halten mehr und Dee, Forgiven holt alles aus dem Sänger und Mastermind heraus, was es herauszuholen gibt.

Das Drumherum hat sich seit seinem Debüt 1997 verändert, seine Stimme blieb.
Selbstbewusst quält er sich durch seine neuen Songs, die ihm leichter von der Hand zu gehen scheinen als es früher einmal war.
Positiver, dabei aber nicht unkritischer.
Sogar ein, das ist für Ounsworth ungewöhnlich, politisch motivierter Song ist dabei. Dies ist insofern wenig verwunderlich, da es einem normal struktierten und denkendem Menschen doch schon ein wenig der Kragen platzt, wenn man beobachtet, was krass selbstverliebt und sich selbst überschätzende Psychopathen ihr Spielchen spielen und mithilfe ihres Einflusses diesen missbräuchlich nutzen.
„Hesitating Nation is a song meant to convey my sense of disappointment and alienation with the rewarded mentality of getting ahead at all costs, inevitably to the detriment of those who didn’t sign up to be part of the experiment”, sagt Ounsworth und beschreibt die zweite Single Thousand Oaks so: „In 2018, there was a shooting in Thousand Oaks, CA which killed 13 people. This song has to do with the impotence of the American government in the face of such tragedies.”
So stellt sich Alec immer und immer die gleichen Fragen. Die Dinge, die einen in diesen Zeiten vielleicht etwas mehr umtreiben in dieser kritischen Zeit: Missmut, Verstimmungen, Scheidungen, das Leben und Älterwerden, die damit verbundenen Probleme, die Bewältigung einer stetig wachsenden Vergangenheit.
Ein meisterlich ergreifendes Stück und gleichzeitig Höhepunkt des neuen Albums ist das von kräftigen Pianoschlägen begleitete Mirror Song, das wirklich das Zeug hat, einen mehr als ein paar Wochen zu begleiten. Hier erinnert Alecs Stimme ein wenig an die alten Waterboys, denen mittlerweile sowohl Besonderheit als auch Wohlklang abhanden gekommen sind.
Man steigert sich, fügt Schlagzeug hinzu, Gitarren, schließlich webt ein Synthieteppich eine groß angelegte chorale Unterlage für einen absolut bemerkenswerten Song.
Auch sonst herrscht hier natürlich um ein Vielfaches mehr Sonnenschein als Schmuddelwetter. Natürlich ist nicht alles Gold, was hier zum Vorschein kommt, dennoch hat
New Fragility
das Zeug dazu, noch ein ums andere Mal hervorgekramt und angehört zu werden.
Das ist mehr als andere schaffen. Das ist eine Ansage und darauf lässt sich aufbauen.
Wie wir letztlich gemeinsam durch 2021 kommen, wird sich zeigen.

has added a new audibility to his typical sound.
The first track, as I said, makes there a pace to the day that you first of all almost the breath away, non-stop, constantly and without interruption, here is no time to catch your breath.
The sound, once thin and frayed, now has almost orchestral strength and bumps from one impure bass run in the next chorus, provides
Theatrical suffering in tones, one must already like, in order to remain here with the rod and to feel then also still pleasure. Strange to unique one could call the plaintive intonations of ….
In song number three finally there is no stopping and Dee, Forgiven gets everything out of the singer and mastermind that there is to get out.
Alec Ounsworth has a remarkable voice. This voice gives the music of his

project a high recognition value.
The trappings have changed since his 1997 debut, his voice has remained.
Self-confidently he tortures his way through his new songs, which seem to come easier from his hand than it used to be.
More positive, but not uncritical.
Even one, which is unusual for Ounsworth, politically motivated song is included. This is insofar little surprising, because it a normally structured and thinking people but already a little bursts the collar, if one observes what blatantly self-absorbed and self-overestimating psychopaths play their game and with the help of their influence this abuse.

So Alec asks himself the same questions over and over again. The things that might be bothering you a bit more at this critical time: ill-temper, upsets, divorces, life and aging, the problems that come with it, coming to terms with an ever-growing past.
A masterfully poignant piece, and at the same time the highlight of the new album, is Mirror Song, accompanied by powerful piano strokes, which really has what it takes to accompany you for more than a few weeks. Here Alec’s voice reminds a little of the old Waterboys, which have meanwhile lost both specialness and euphony.
One increases, adds drums, guitars, finally a synth carpet weaves a large-scale choral carpet pad for an absolutely remarkable song.
Even otherwise, of course, there’s a lot more sunshine than dirty weather here. Of course, not everything is gold that comes to light here, yet
New Fragility
has what it takes to be picked up and listened to again and again.
That is more than others manage. That is an announcement and can be built on.
How we ultimately get through 2021 together remains to be seen.
