Mach doch was Du willst: ROSIE TUCKER – Sucker Supreme (review)

Genau.
Die Frage ist, wenn man schonmal eine Goldmedaille bekommen hat, wie ist das zu steigern?
Also, wenn quasi schon Alle überzeugt sind?

Vielleicht muss man sich auch nicht steigern.
Vielleicht muss man einfach man selbst sein.
Vielleicht muss man einfach den eingeschlagenen Weg fortsetzen. Mit sich selbst zufrieden ohne selbstzufrieden zu wirken.
Dann reicht das schon.
Man muss nicht allen gefallen.
Es reicht, wenn man für manche etwas ganz Besonderes darstellt.

Ohne jetzt sich auf Lorbeeren ausruhen zu wollen.
Ist ja eh kaum möglich, so als MusikerIn, weil neue Songs immer auch eine Art Prüfstein sind. Weie kommen sie an?
Werden sie mich auch jetzt immer noch lieben?
Wereden sie sich in meinen LIedern wiedererkennen?
Werden sie sie mit geschlossenen Augen im Bett anhören und leise mitsummen?

Never Not Never Not Never Not hieß ihr letztes Werk das erschien bei New Professor Music und ist nur aufgrund von Kleinigkeien dem Titel Album des Jahres vorbeigeschrammt.

Wer es absolut nicht leiden kann, und ich meine es so, wie ich es schreibe, wer es nicht leiden kann, während dem Hören und durch einen Song eine Gänsehaut zu bekommen, der sollte es mit
Sucker Supreme
gar nicht erst versuchen.
Amborosia ist ein Highlightein Übersong. Unglaublich gut. Einnehmend.

Auf diesem Album jagt eine Idee die nächst in wechselndem Tempo. Mit ihren Lyrics, mit ihren Songs, mit der Art ihrer Interpretaion schafft

es, uns ein ums ander Mal in eine Art Hochspannung zu veretzen.


Ein Empfinden, ein erstes Hören einer Platte, ein Fühlen – es ist immer eine Momentausnahme. Schon nach mehreren Hördurchgängen und natürlich auch ganz nach Stimmung schwankt das alles.
HIer aber etwas anderes als eine volle Punktzahl zu verleihen, scheint mir gänzlich unmöglich..

ROSIE TUCKER

die sich selbst (im englishen them/they) als non-binär bezeichnet hat es geschaft, mehr als nur eine Fortsetzung ihres Never Not Never Not Never Not zu verfassen.
Das ist mehr als man erwarten konnt und das ist besser als der Rest.


Sucker Supreme
ist wie ein Osterfest mit Eiersuche im Wald hinter dem Haus.
Man entdeckt immer wieder ein leuchtendes Irgendwas, ein Teil, das sich im Zusammenhang zu einem großen Ganzen fügt, Wochen später kommt ein weiteres Teilchen zur Oberfläche, man fragt sich, wie man es hatte die ganze Zeit übersehen respektive überhören können.
Ist aber so.

Stellenweise unfertig, mit brüchigem, zur Seite weg fallendem Charme, dann wieder fast übermäßig energisch, ohne aber jedwede Drohgebärde, einfach nur sie* selbst.

Wenn

‚ROSIE TUCKER

ohne Mühe zwei derartig gelungene, qualitativ hochklassige, emotional mitreißende, lyrisch herausfordernde Alben auf den Markt werfen kann, wie soll das denn weitergehen?

Vielleicht wird sie dann ja doch irgendwann in einer anderen Welt einmal die
‚Musik für Millionen‘-Chanteuse sein.
Momentan jedenfalls ind ihre Songs, Ihr Output Meßlatte für alles, was da ist und was da kommt.

The question is, if you’ve already won a gold medal, how do you increase that?
So, if virtually everyone is already convinced?
Maybe you don’t have to improve yourself.
Maybe you just have to be yourself.
Maybe you just have to continue on the path you have chosen. Satisfied with yourself without appearing self-satisfied.
Then that’s enough.
You don’t have to please everyone.
It is enough if you represent something very special for some.
Without wanting to rest on laurels now.
It’s hardly possible as a musician anyway, because new songs are always a kind of touchstone. How are they received?
Will they still love me now?
Will they recognize themselves in my songs?
Will they listen to them with closed eyes in bed and hum along softly?
Never Not Never Not Never Not was the name of their* last work, which was released by New Professor Music and only missed the title of album of the year due to some minor details.
If you absolutely can’t stand it, and I mean it as I write it, if you can’t stand getting goose bumps while listening to and through a song, then you should take a look at
Sucker Supreme
should not even try.
Amborosia is a highlight, an oversong. Incredibly good. Engaging.
On this album, one idea chases the next at an alternating pace. With their lyrics, with their songs, with the way of their interpretation creates
ROSIE TUCKER
manages to put us in a kind of high tension one after the other.
A sensation, a first hearing of a record, a feeling – it is always a momentary exception. Even after several listenings and of course depending on the mood, it all fluctuates.
But to give anything other than a full score seems completely impossible to me.
ROSIE TUCKER
who calls herself non-binary, has managed to write more than just a sequel to their Never Not Never Not Never Not.
This is more than you could expect and this is better than the rest.
Sucker Supreme
is like an Easter with an egg hunt in the woods behind the house.
You keep discovering a shining something, a part that fits together in context to form a greater whole, weeks later another particle comes to the surface, you wonder how you could have overlooked or overheard it all this time.
But it is like that.
Unfinished in places, with brittle charm falling away to the side, then again almost excessively energetic, but without any threatening gesture, just them theirselves.
When
‚ROSIE TUCKER
can effortlessly put two such successful, high-quality, emotionally stirring, lyrically challenging albums on the market, how is it supposed to go on?
Perhaps they will then, after all, someday in another world, become the
music for millions‘ chanteuse.
At the moment, their songs and their output are the benchmark for everything that is there and everything that is to come.
