Hört man dann aber die ersten Töne von Superhero, dem Eröffnungsstück des neuen Soloalbums

kommt einem so einiges in den Sinn und das Gehörte dann doch ebenso vertraut vor.
Die Stimme von The Innocence Mission!
Seit Jahren, vielen Jahren ist sie dort die tonangebende Stimme, ja, das, was als Eindruck im Kopf bleibt.
In ihrer kindlichen tönenden Naivität und zwischen all der wohlklingenden Schönheit, diesen hoffentlich nie endenden Songs, die in wandernde Piano und Streichinstrumente verpackt sind, kommen einem CRANES Allison Shaw oder auch eine frühe(re) JULIA STONE in den Sinn.
Ihre Songs über Tiere, die Natur, die Gegebenheiten, das Leben..
Könnten ebenso auf einem ein Kinderbuch begleitenden Hörbuch eben in hier vorliegenden Versionen veröffentlicht werden.
Ihre Texte gleiten dabei nie in all zu kitschige Gefilde, wenn man einen Ritt auf einer Giraffe oder ein Gespräch mit einem Elefanten einfach mal als impossible dream stehen lässt.
Sanft, schleichend und träumerisch wandelnd in Ruhe und unglaublicher Leichtigkeit, Unbeschwertheit und voller Freude, so kommt die Musik einem entgegengesprungen und setzt angenehme Widerparts dem herannahenden Herbst und Winter entgegen.
Streicher und ausbalancierte Gitarren, dazu eben jener gutmütige Gesang, das ist ein ganz besonderes Erlebnis und ein absoluter Höhepunkt des Musikjahres 2021.

Die Songs sind im Zeitraum von fast 7 Jahren entstanden.
Eine, gerade mit Blick auf die Geschehnisse in der Welt in den letzten knapp zwei Jahre, nahezu unglaublich lange Zeitspanne. KAREN singt von unserer Verantwortung der Umwelt gegenüber, schafft mit Ruhe und Kraft und ihren selbst gespielten Instrumenten wie Akkordeon, Melodica, Gitarre oder Orgel, in Begleitung ihres Partners Don Peris (Kontrabass & Schlaginstrumente) sowie ihren gemeinsamen Kindern Anna & Drew an Geige und Bratsche, eine Atmosphäre, die ihresgleichen sucht und Entspannung verströmt wie gleichmäßiges Wellenrauschen, auf einem Liegestuhl in der Sonne, am menschenleeren Meer.
Fast filmisch kommt es mitunter zu vor dem inneren Auge entstehenden Bildern, Sister Birds schafft es, mich direkt an die Seine mit seinen Bouquisten zu entführen, einen Spaziergang durch Quartier Latin im Jahre 1985, bei Nebel und mit dem Gefühl unbeschreiblicher Sorglosigkeit im Bauch und Abenteuerlust im Kopf.

the name doesn’t sound very familiar at first.
But when you hear the first notes of Superhero, the opening track of the new solo album
A Song Is A Way Above The Lawn
a lot of things come to mind and what you hear seems just as familiar.
The voice of The Innocence Mission!
For years, many years, she has been the tone-setting voice there, yes, what remains as an impression in the head.
In her childlike sounding naivety and between all the melodious beauty, these hopefully never ending songs wrapped in wandering piano and strings, CRANES Allison Shaw or also an early(r) JULIA STONE come to mind.
Their songs about animals, nature, the realities of life.
Could just as well be published on an audio book accompanying a children’s book in the versions presented here.
Their lyrics never slide into too kitschy realms, if you just leave a ride on a giraffe or a conversation with an elephant as an impossible dream.
Gentle, creeping and dreamy walking in peace and unbelievable lightness, light-heartedness and full of joy, that’s how the music comes jumping towards you and sets pleasant counterparts to the approaching autumn and winter.
Strings and balanced guitars, plus just that good-natured singing, this is a very special experience and an absolute highlight of the music year 2021.

The songs were written in the period of almost 7 years.
A, especially in view of the events in the world in the last almost two years, almost unbelievably long period of time. KAREN sings about our responsibility towards the environment, creates with peace and power and her self-played instruments such as accordion, melodica, guitar or organ, accompanied by her partner Don Peris (double bass & percussion instruments) as well as their common children Anna & Drew on violin and viola, an atmosphere that is unparalleled and exudes relaxation like the steady murmur of waves, on a deck chair in the sun, at the deserted sea.
Almost cinematic, it sometimes comes to images arising in the mind’s eye, Sister Birds manages to take me directly to the Seine with its bouquists, a walk through Quartier Latin in 1985, in the fog and with the feeling of indescribable carelessness in the belly and adventurousness in the head.
