Das Bewusstsein zu öffnen, Akzeptanz fördern, fordern.

Etwas Neues wagen, etwas besonderes produzieren, andere Wege beschreiten und trotzdem sich selbst und dem vertrauten Klang weitgehend treu bleiben.

Sympathy For Life
ist das neue, das mittlerweile siebte Album der Punkrocker aus Brooklyn beinhaltet mehr Dance-Punk-Pop und Rebellion als ihre letzten Alben. Irgendwie macht die Zeit auch vor Punk & Rebellion nicht Halt. Sie haben sich weiterentwickelt, sind reifer, ja, grown-ups geworden.
Wie bringt man nun diese Grooves und Bewegungen in ihre von Wildheit und Widerspruch geprägte Musik?
Naja, einfach machen, Vorbilder suchen (wie Primal Scream zu Screamadelica-Zeiten..) und weiter Aufbruch verbreiten.

Allein mit Kopf hoch und weitermachen war es nicht mehr getan, der Band nicht mehr genug.
Die Songs für das Album waren fertig als das Unheil über die Welt kam.
Pause, Unterbrechung, Lockdown. Alles steht still.
Eine von Unruhe erfüllte Band.
Wie macht man das, wie geht es weiter, wann kann man veröffentlichen, was macht Sinn?

Es bleibt ihre Kraft, ihr Protest und zwischen all der Unsicherheit, die die Pandemie mit allen Unwägbarkeiten und Ängsten mit sich bringt.
Es bleibt ihr Charme und die Eingängigkeit ihrer Melodien, die Rhythmen, die Dynamik. Sprachgesang und Soundcollagen, immer wieder blitzen hier Rave-Remineszenzen auf, XTC oder Talking Heads, wenn man möchte.

Sympathy For Life
ist das eindeutig unspezifischste Album der

PARQUET COURTS

nimmt man das bisher gehörte (hier die Rezension ihres letzten Albums Wide Awake!) als Maßstab.

Es bewegt auf anderer Ebene, ein anderer Style, der ihnen aber durchaus gut steht.
Weiterhin geht es um Ideen für eine besssere, andere Welt, ein Leben, das abseits der Konsumgesellschaft irgendwie möglich sein muss.

is the new, now seventh album of the punk rockers from Brooklyn contains more dance-punk-pop and rebellion than their last albums. Somehow time doesn’t stop Punk & Rebellion. They have evolved, become more mature, yes, grown-ups.
So how do you bring these grooves and movements into their music, which is characterized by wildness and contradiction?
Well, just do it, look for role models (like Primal Scream in Screamadelica times..) and keep spreading awakening.

Just with head up and continue it was no longer done, the band no longer enough.
The songs for the album were ready when the disaster came over the world.
Break, interruption, lockdown. Everything stands still.
A band filled with unrest.
How to do it, how to continue, when to release, what makes sense?

It remains their strength, their protest and between all the uncertainty that brings the pandemic with all the imponderables and fears.
It remains their charm and the catchiness of their melodies, the rhythms, the dynamics. Speech vocals and sound collages, rave reminiscences flash up here again and again, XTC or Talking Heads, if you like.

is clearly the most unspecific album of the

PARQUET COURTS

if you take what you’ve heard so far (here’s the review of their last album Wide Awake!) as a yardstick.

It moves on a different level, a different style, but one that suits them quite well.
Furthermore, it is about ideas for a better, different world, a life that must somehow be possible away from the consumer society.
