Der Name klingt ja im ersten Moment eher so, als würden wir mal eben einen Blick in die Chart-Übersicht werfen.
Vielleicht ja eine Emo-Grunge-Kapelle der nach Blink182-Ära.
Oder so etwas.
Doch, halt, nein.
Hör doch mal.
Das sind
MIDDLE KIDS.
Das ist richtig cool und in manchen Momenten wirklich grandios.
Ihre neue Scheibe ist schon ein paar Monate alt, das Jahr nähert sich seinem Ende und so muss diese Platte noch Erwähnung finden, ist sie doch mehr als eine von vielen.
Mit ihrem Charme und der leichten Zugänglichkeit wundert es mich doch über die Maßen, dass den
MIDDLE KIDS
nicht mehr Aufmerksamkeit zuteil wurde.
Zumal sich mit Cellophane (Brain) ein wirklich großartiger Song dieses Jahres darauf befindet und beispielsweise auch Summer Hill es sich in jeder Indie-Hitparade außerordentlich bequem machen könnte.
Unaufdringlich und trotzdem überaus einprägsam, die Stimme von Leadsängerin Hannah Joy die zwischen Knödeligkeit a la Cranberries und Cherry Lazerrscher Laszivität mit Leichtigkeit in unseren Wohnzimmern wohlfühlt und über weit mehr Potential verfügt, als man es hier in ihren Songs ausnutzen kann.
Die pendeln zwischen Melancholie, Auswegslosigkeit und hoffnungsfrohem Nach Vorne Schauen, machen sich gut bei depressiven Nachfeiertagsverstimmungen, genau wie in der Kneipe beim Treffen alter Freunde wie auch in möglicher Konzertambiente.
So schmiegt sich dann auch der Titelsong ganz am Ende noch einmal an, reibt sich ein wenig, Haut an Haut, wohlig sich räkelnd und vermittelt ein Wohlfühlgefühl von oben nach unten, von unten nach oben und wenn man mal in der Mitte steckenbleibt ist das mehr als gut.
Wenngleich die Melodie schon etwas zu sehr auf Leichtigkeit/Eingängigkeit setzt, ist dies hoffentlich nicht der HInweis, in welche Richtung es hier gehen wird.
In ihrer australischen Heimat durchaus mit einer nicht zu unterschätzenden Fanbase ausgestattet, ist das Trio hierzulande doch eher ein Geheimtipp.
Sofern sie mit eventuellen neuen Songs nicht mehr alte Klischees erfüllen werden, kommen wir gern auf diese MusikerInnen zurück.

The name sounds in the first moment rather as if we would take a look at the chart overview.
Maybe an emo-grunge band of the post-Blink182 era.
Or something like that.
But, wait, no.
Listen.
This is
MIDDLE KIDS.
This is really cool and in some moments really terrific.
Their new record is already a few months old, the year is coming to an end and so this record still has to be mentioned, it is more than one of many.
With its charme and the easy accessibility it surprises me beyond measure that the
MIDDLE KIDS
have not received more attention.
Especially since Cellophane (Brain) is a really great song of this year on it and Summer Hill, for example, could make herself extraordinarily comfortable in any indie-chart-party.
Unobtrusive and yet exceedingly catchy, the voice of lead singer Hannah Joy who, between grittiness a la Cranberries and Cherry Lazerrscher lasciviousness, feels at home in our living rooms with ease and has far more potential than can be exploited here in her songs. They oscillate between melancholy, hopelessness and hopeful looking forward, do well in depressive post-holiday moods, just as in the pub when meeting old friends as well as in possible concert ambience.
So then also the title song at the very end once again nestles, rubs a little, skin to skin, pleasantly lolling and conveys a feel-good feeling from top to bottom, from bottom to top and if you get stuck in the middle once is more than good.
Although the melody is already a bit too much on ease / catchiness, this is hopefully not the HInweis, in which direction it will go here.
In their Australian homeland equipped with a fan base not to be underestimated, the trio is in this country but rather an insider tip.
Provided that they will not fulfill more old clichés with possible new songs, we will gladly come back to these musicians.
