wollte ich früher küssen und heiraten.

Dabei hat sie erst jetzt ihre große Zeit.
Eine etwas andere Zeit.

Eine Zeit der Neuorientierung und der Veränderung des Klangs.

ANGEL OLSEN

ist jetzt mehr mit Bläsern, mit Eleganz und Elegie, mehr mit Orgeln, Schingeling und Americana, mehr Folk-Musik, mehr Landgefühl. Countrykram eben, verstehst Du?

Das kann schon mal ausufern und dick aufgetragen daherkommen.
Das kann man aber verzeihen.
Denn

ANGEL OLSEN

kann tun oder lassen, es bleibt eine Tatsache, dass sie eine der besten Songschreiberinnen dieser Tage ist. Was auch immer für ein Genre sie beackert.

Ob da mal mehr Gitarre vibriert oder mehr Wüstensand die Plattenspielernadel kratzen lässt, wen interessiert das schon?
Das Ergebnis ist beeindruckend und unter bestimmten Umständen berauschend.
Dabei ist sie so wandelbar.
Und genau das macht sie spannend.
Eine immerwährende, gleichbleibende Spannung umgibt sie, ganz egal, welches Outfit sie gerade trägt.

Das Piano schwebt, es tänzelt geheimnisvoll. Ghost On hat eine entspannende Atmosphäre, die einen in den Bann zieht ohne Zwänge, die fesselt, ohne die Handgelenke einzuschneiden.

Hat zu Beginn des Jahres das letzte Album von Big Thief noch überraschte Gesichter hervorgerufen, scheint der Bereich Country-Folk inzwischen nachgewiesener Weise angesagt.
Haben Bands wie First Aid Kit hier einen Weg geebnet, springen mehr und mehr Künstler und Bands hinterher und reisen ein Stückchen mit.
Dabei gibt es nicht nur den Fight mit der Akzeptanz bei den Fans sondern auch die Sache mit der Authenzität.
Mal klappt das, mal nicht.

Im Falle von
Big Time
steht der Sache mit der Ehrlichkeit nicht das Problem, hier wird niemandem etwas aufgedrängt und im Gegensatz zu einigen anderen schafft es Angel, ohne mir gehörig auf die Nerven zu gehen, ihr Ding zu machen. Und wenn wie in Dream Thing eindeutig die Stimme vor der Genrezugehörigkeit steht, kann sie durchaus zusätzlich Sympathien für sich verbuchen.
Über relaxtem Hintergrund, gegen Ende des Songs auch mit Handclaps und Co versehen, ist das schon ziemlich cool und kann sowohl daheim beim Kochen als auch auf der Landstraße cruisend für die passende Unterhaltung sorgen.

Auch Ghost On macht da nichts falsch, ein ruhiges Ensemble in Begleitung einer schönen Stimme einer ebensolchen Musikerin.

Weitaus besser gefiele mir eine Rückkehr zu ursprünglichen Wurzeln.
Geblieben ist ihre unschlagbar einnehmende Art, mich mit ihren Sounds, woher auch immer gerade der Wind weht, um den Finger zu wickeln. Lassen wir uns mal überraschen, zu welchem noch unbekannten Ziel sie zukünftig aufbricht.

So wird sich
Big Time
wahrscheinlich nicht zu meinen Lieblingsalben aufschwingen, gleichwohl ist es eine unterhaltsame Abwechslung und eine interessante Ergänzung im Portfolio dieser Ausnahmekünstlerin.

I used to want to kiss and marry her many times ago.

Now she has her big time.
A slightly different time.

A time of reorientation and change of sound.

ANGEL OLSEN

is now more with horns, with elegance and elegy, more with organs, chiming and Americana, more folk music, more country feel. Country stuff, you know?
That can sometimes get out of hand and come across as thickly applied.
But you can forgive that.
Because

ANGEL OLSEN

can do or not do, it remains a fact that she is one of the best songwriters of these days. Whatever genre she plows.

Whether there is more guitar vibrating or more desert sand scratching the turntable needle, who cares?
The result is impressive and under certain circumstances intoxicating.
Yet it is so changeable.
And that’s what makes it exciting.
A perpetual, unchanging tension surrounds her, no matter what outfit she’s wearing.
The piano floats, it dances mysteriously. Ghost On has a relaxing atmosphere that draws you in without constraints, captivates without cutting your wrists.

If at the beginning of the year the last album of Big Thief still caused surprised faces, the field of country-folk now seems demonstrably hip.
If bands like First Aid Kit have paved a way here, more and more artists and bands are jumping behind and traveling a bit.
There is not only the fight with the acceptance by the fans but also the thing with the authenticity.
Sometimes it works, sometimes not.

In the case of
Big Time
the thing with the honesty is not the problem, as it were here no one is forced on anything and in contrast to some others Angel manages to do her thing without getting on my nerves. And when, as in Dream Thing, the voice clearly comes before the genre, she can definitely win sympathy.
Over a relaxed background, towards the end of the song also provided with handclaps and co, it’s pretty cool and can entertain at home while cooking as well as cruising on the highway.

Ghost On doesn’t do anything wrong either, a quiet ensemble accompanied by a beautiful voice of an equally beautiful musician.

I would like a return to the original roots much better.
What has remained is her unbeatably engaging way of wrapping me around her finger with her sounds, wherever the wind is blowing. Let’s be surprised to which still unknown destination she will set out in the future.
So will
Big Time
will probably not become one of my favorite albums, but it is an entertaining change and an interesting addition to the portfolio of this exceptional artist.
