Nee, kenn ich nicht.
Erst durch eine Erinnerungsmail wurde ich aufmerksam gemacht auf dieses Album dieser Band, von der ich zum ersten Mal höre.
Und wie angekündigt: Wenn es Dich gepackt hat, hat es Dich gepackt.
Das ist Goth-Pop oder Indie-Rock zu einer Mischung a la Iggy Pop, Siouxsie, Joy Division, Gang Of Four, The Mission, Yeah Yeah Yeahs zusammengewürfelt und druckvoll unters Volk geschmissen..
Süßlich-düster treibende, voranpreschende Bass-Läufe, die direkt aus einem Underground-Tunnel in unser Hören dringen.
Preoccupations dann mit Wechselgesang. großartig hier Snap Out Of It mit seinem geschmeidig eingängigen Beat und einem Sound, eisgekühlt, klar, schneidend, kämpfend.
2018 haben sie sich kennengelernt, Sängerin Dana wartete im Laden von Tom auf die Reparatur ihres Telefons. Und, natürlich kamen sie ins Gespräch und so kam eins zum anderen. Schnell war klar, das da musikalisch eine dicke Gemeinsamkeit festzustellen war. Dann kam schon recht bald die Pandemie und hat alles ausgebremst. Sowohl die gemeinsame Arbeit an Songs und dem Sound der Band als auch an der plötzlichen Beendigung jedweder Live-Aktionen.
Man möchte vermuten,
COR DE LUX
wären irgendwo auf dem britischen Eiland Zuhause, umgeben von Nichts uns Wasser, mit ständig grauem Himmel und Nebel, Nebel, Nebel.
Sie tönen dunkel, blechern, die Bässe wummern und man verstekt sich in Tunneln und engen Röhren.
Qualm und Rauch und ein eckiges Klangbild, durchsetzt von einem, so meint man, ständig nach vorn treibenden Bass.
So sind auch klanglich aneinandergereihte Wiederholungen (Futures) mit sich nur minimal ändernden Tonfolgen maßgebend.
Die ergänzenden, wechselnden Gesänge, machen den Reiz dieser Kompositionen aus und überraschen ein ums andere Mal.
Auch der Stimmungswechseln innerhalb eines Songs ist bemerkenswert.
War eben noch Bedrohlichkeit tonangebend, vergisst man die Dunkelheit von einem auf den anderen Moment, wenn besagte Sangeswechsel erfolgen.
Unheimlich und intensiv (Whose Side) schweben ihre Sounds heran, schwirren um uns herum, brechen aus, beschleunigen, Energieschub, crazy, Spannungsaufbau par excellence. Dabei steigern, jagen, ergänzen, befeuern die Stimmen der Band, Dana Quinn und Tim Lusk sich gegenseitig.
Manchmal fragt man sich, ob man nicht plötzlich in einem Käfig mit Interpol/Siouxsie/Preoccupations sitzt und gemeinsam einen Kaffee schlürft.
Beeindruckend das Wechselspiel, begleitet von einer stets lodernden Begleitung durch ihre Band-Mitmusikerinnen.
Ein forderndes Album, bei dem ich das Gefühl nicht loswerde, dass es sich beleidigt in eine Zimmerecke zurückziehen wird, wenn man ihm nicht genug Zeit widmet, nicht nur bruchstückhaft sonderm im Ganzen.
So wirken die Songs erst im Zusammenspiel in all ihrer Vielfältigkeit und beeindrucken von Moment zu Moment, enfalten ihre Wirkung erst als Ganzes.
So ist

ein äußerst spannendes, erfrischendes, überraschendes, Laune machendes, beeindruckendes, treibendes und faszinierend abwechslungsreiches Album, das in seiner stets vorhandenen Dunkelheit und Düsternis ein Gefühl der Freude und Hoffnung vermittelt, dass es nur so kracht.
Das hier ist wie die Vorfreude auf einen Grillausflug mit Freunden.
Wie eine Versammlung vieler guter Tage.

COR de what?
No, I don’t know it.
Only through a reminder mail I was made aware of this album of this band, of which I hear for the first time.
And as announced: If it grabbed you, it grabbed you.
This is goth-pop or indie rock thrown together into a mixture a la Iggy Pop, Siouxsie, Joy Division, Gang Of Four, The Mission, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and thrown under the people in a powerful way.
Sweetly dark driving, pushing bass runs that penetrate directly from an underground tunnel into our hearing.
Preoccupations then with alternating vocals. great here Snap Out Of It with its smooth catchy beat and a sound, icy, clear, cutting, fighting.
In 2018 they met, singer Dana was waiting in Tom’s store for her phone to be repaired. And, of course, they got to talking and so one thing led to another. It was quickly clear that there was a thick common ground musically. Then the pandemic came quite soon and slowed everything down. Both the common work on songs and the sound of the band as well as the sudden termination of any live actions.
One would like to suspect,
COR DE LUX
would be at home somewhere on the British isle, surrounded by nothingness us water, with constantly gray sky and fog, fog, fog.
They sound dark, tinny, the bass booms and you hide in tunnels and narrow tubes.
Smoke and fumes and an angular sound, interspersed with what one thinks is a bass constantly driving forward.
Thus, sonically strung together repetitions (futures) with only minimally changing tone sequences are also authoritative.
The complementary, changing vocals, make up the charm of these compositions and surprise every now and then.
Also the change of mood within a song is remarkable.
If just now threateningness was tone-setting, one forgets the darkness from one moment to the other, if said singing changes take place.
Eerie and intense (Whose Side) their sounds float up, buzz around us, break out, accelerate, energy boost, crazy, tension building par excellence. In the process, the voices of the band, Dana Quinn and Tim Lusk boost, chase, complement, fire each other.
Sometimes you wonder if you are not suddenly sitting in a cage with Interpol/Siouxsie/Preoccupations and sipping a coffee together.
The interplay is impressive, accompanied by an always blazing accompaniment from her bandmates.
A demanding album, where I can’t get rid of the feeling that it will retreat in a corner of the room in a huff if you don’t devote enough time to it, not just fragmentarily but as a whole.
So the songs work only in the interaction in all their diversity and impress from moment to moment, enfold their effect only as a whole.
This is how

is an extremely exciting, refreshing, surprising, whimsical, impressive, driving and fascinatingly varied album, which in its ever-present darkness and gloom conveys a feeling of joy and hope that it just cracks.
This one is like the anticipation of a barbecue outing with friends.
Like a gathering of many good days.
