Mehr als zwanzig Jahre ist die Band zusammen, hier kommt mit
First Two Pages Of Frankenstein
nun das neunte gemeinsame Studioalbum.
Was für ein seltsamer Titel.
Nachdem in der Pandemiezeit die Bandmitglieder Zeit für sich allein beziehungsweise für sich und die Familie hatten, nachdem Gerüchte über durchlebte Schreibblockaden die Runde machten genau wie Mutmaßungen, ob sie sich überhaupt noch etwas zu sagen hätten.., war es ein ungewohntes und etwas kompliziertes wieder Zueinander-Kommen, als sie sich zu den neuen Aufnahmen im Studio versammelten.
Doch dann.. ging alles wie immer, wie von selbst und zusätzlich war da Berichten zufolge so etwas wie ein neues Gemeinschaftsgefühl zu spüren.
Nun, wenn dabei solche Songs entstehen wie Grease In Your Hair oder Eucalyptus (mein persönlicher Favorit) oder Your Mind Is Not Your Friend in Zusammenarbeit mit Phoebe Bridgers, nur zu. Wohlan.
Natürlich passt auch Taylor Swift ganz super und Sufjan Stevens und alle, die hier mitmachen durften.
Da trifft fast jeder Ton, da fügt sich Gefühl mit Melodie zusammen und das ist schon schön.
Vom Flair und dem Erleben her hat dieses Album für mich schon etwas von den Hymnen von Michael Stipe und REM.
Dazu muss es nicht immer voll bedeutsame Musik sein.
Es reicht manchmal, wenn man sich beim Hören einfach gut fühlt.

are almost world-famous heroes by now.
Their songs shortly after release classics.
Hits.
For their fans anyway.
More than twenty years the band is together, here comes with
First Two Pages Of Frankenstein
now the ninth joint studio album.
What a strange title.
After the band members had time for themselves or for themselves and their families during the pandemic, after rumors about writer’s block made the rounds just like speculations whether they still had something to say to each other, it was an unusual and somewhat complicated coming together again when they gathered in the studio for the new recordings.
But then… everything went as usual, as if by itself, and in addition, there was reportedly something like a new sense of community.
Well, if that results in songs like Grease In Your Hair or Eucalyptus (my personal favorite) or Your Mind Is Not Your Friend in collaboration with Phoebe Bridgers, go for it. Cheers.
Of course, Taylor Swift also fits quite super and Sufjan Stevens and all who were allowed to participate here.
There almost every tone hits, there feeling joins with melody and that is already beautiful.
From the flair and the experience, this album has something of the hymns of Michael Stipe and REM for me.
It doesn’t always have to be fully meaningful music.
Sometimes it’s enough if you just feel good while listening to it.
